“Briar Design & Construction was recommended to us by our architect, who sent us a flyer promoting his excellent designs. It turned out to be a very lucky call to Jim at Briar. In my experience, when a job is quoted, you can expect to pay, in the end, about twice the amount quoted, and can expect any number of unexplained “Down-Time” days. “Sorry, my truck broke. Had to go to the dentist. My uncle’s in town. I have to play golf this week. My daughter’s getting married in Japan .” Very frustrating, but what we thought was the norm.
Fortunately, Jim showed us how it’s supposed to be done. No stories, no excuses, on time and RIGHT ON BUDGET. They quoted $130,000, and that’s what it was.
Every work day, there were at least 2 workers at our house, on time, friendly and respectful. Clean up was done every weekend, and no damage was ever done to our property.
As a testament to their organizational skills, there were never any lost days due to an errant sub-contractor not being on time, or missing in action. There always seemed to be a back-up plan to keep the project moving ahead on schedule.
More than once, they helped out with advice with side projects not mentioned in our initial talks, e.g. a gate, a fence, extra landscaping and extra wiring for a surround system. Due to these and other on-the-spot additions and changes, the job took longer than originally planned, which was good because we got a lot of extra things done, not necessarily in the original game plan, and we weren’t left high and dry. Never a hint of, “Sorry, not time left, we have a new job starting yesterday.” Jim and Steve were very accommodating.
One time, when a cabinet was taking way too long by a sub-contractor (not brought in by Briar, but by us), Jim stepped in and made it happen. He had the guy sign a completion contract, with a fine if he didn’t finish by a real deadline. Something we never could have pulled off.
We had a plumber, an air conditioning company, and an electrician in place from previous jobs, and there were no problems integrating these companies into Briar’s overall plan.
